Aesthetics: Philosophy of the Arts

1. From this video I learned that all artist's have there own philosophies on the same subjects and see the same subjects in different ways from there creative eyes.

2. I think Friedrich Von Schiller's theory on aesthetics is pretty important because he talkes about what makes us humans, our freedom, and our morals. He states "art makes us more human." He also goes on to say art is necessary for social order based on freedom instead of totalitarianism restraints. Then he ends with a very wonderful quote "when we develop our aesthetic capacities, we develop our moral capacities, so much so that aesthetic education renders moral education superfluous."

1.  From this video I learned that the brain is an important part of aesthetics. Each part of the brain helps us see and react to different things.

3. Changeux-I liked his view on aesthetics and art but somethings I disagree with. Like when he said works of art are human productions, art happens all around us not just human made. I liked that he said art was a form of communication and that it is a constant evolution.

Most interesting fact that I discovered from this speaker was that in an artisit brain anything is possible.

Ramachandran - I liked his view on aesthetics. He explained that there such things as artistic universals and the brain responds to art in several ways.  The way the brain responds is very well represented in his 8 laws of aesthetics. I liked the laws of aesthetics and they made a lot of sense.

Most interesting  fact that I discovered from this speaker was that it takes the brain 15 years to develop.

4. The videos relate to the readings in the book because the book talks about aesthetics but kind of in a general way and the videos give us more details, examples, and other prespectives to think about. I learn more if I read and then look at other examples or different perpectives on the same subject.

5. I liked the films but I did feel they were a bit long. It was also hard to understand Changeux, his accent was strong. I feel they help me gain a better understanding of aesthetics because they gave more details, examples, and other prespectives. They helped me understand art a bit more. I like to hear all the artisit's philosopies. I felt they all had something different to offer.
